Dr. Chan Young Bang Fellowship For Global Education

KIMEP University is the premier Western-style institution of higher education in Central Asia, offering English-language degree programs that attract some of the most driven and inquisitive students from Kazakhstan and surrounding countries. Fellowship Description:

Five fellows will be enrolled at KIMEP as graduate students in the academic program of their choice. All tuition fees will be waived; fellows will take three classes a semester at no cost.

Available Programs:
Master in Business Administration (MBA)
Master in Economics
Master of Public Administration (MPA)
Master of Laws in International Law (LLM)
Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MATESOL)
Master in International Journalism and Mass Communications
Master of International Relations (MIR)

In addition, for twenty hours a week, fellows will work for a specific department at KIMEP. These positions all demand self-starting individuals unafraid to take the initiative in developing and implementing their own projects. Job responsibilities might include mentoring students, fundraising, organizing events, giving English language presentations to students and faculty, and assisting with marketing and recruitment efforts.

Status of Fellows:
Designation: Considered full-time student and part time employee (20 work hours/week)
Visa Status: Student Visa
Salary: 325,000 KZT per month (gross), 20% tax deducted. (Approximately $1,770 a month after tax)

KIMEP employee medical insurance for a one-time fee of 40,000 KZT (about $270)
Assistance in finding affordable housing close to campus

Application Process:

KIMEP is searching for candidates with a BA degree and strong academic record. Previous international experience, demonstrated leadership potential, and a passion for working with students and/or in higher education administration are highly desirable. The application process has three steps. After sending all materials for their initial application, selected applicants will be contacted for Skype interviews. Chosen candidates will then be asked to complete the formal process of applying for a Masters Program at KIMEP and beginning the visa application process.

Graduate School Admissions:

Once a candidate has been chosen for the fellowship and invited to formally apply to KIMEP, the following documents will be required:
A completed online Masters Application form. Please use this application form for the Master of International Law (LLM) program
A photocopy of your passport
A photocopy of your apostilled1 diploma(s) and transcript(s), or an official letter from your university certifying that you are a graduating/final year student with transcript of grades
A resume in English, covering academic achievements and work experience
Any honors or awards in the relevant field of study
Two letters of recommendation from your university or place of work (not required for the MBA program)
An essay, as follows:
For applicants to the MPA program: Please write a short personal essay explaining your interest in the MPA program and detailing how it will help you achieve your goals. (2-3 pages)
For applicants to the MIR program: Please briefly discuss your interest in a KIMEP education
For applicants to the MAIJ program: Please submit, if possible, three pieces of work: audio material, video material, and a published article
For applicants to the MA in TESOL program: Please write a short personal essay explaining your interest in the MA in TESOL program and detailing how it will help you achieve your goals. (2-3 pages)
No essay is required for applicants to the MAE and MBA programs.
Supplementary materials may be submitted at your discretion.

1: An apostille (a stamped, printed form on state documents of education) is an international standard form containing information on the legal status of a document presented on the territory of any country participating in The Hague Convention of 1961. Different US states have different regulations for issuing an apostille. If you are selected as a fellow, KIMEP will help guide you through the process.

2: A notarized document is a legal document officially certified by a notary public. The purpose of having a legal document notarized is to ensure the authenticity of the signatures that appear on the document.

Student Visa:

KIMEP will facilitate the process of getting a visa for international students. Before you can apply to your local Embassy of Kazakhstan for a visa, you must have a formal invitation letter from KIMEP.

I. Invitation Letter Stage (KIMEP will send you all required forms upon your acceptance)
Send your completed KIMEP Visa Form and scanned copy of your passport to KIMEP
Send KIMEP your Diploma and Transcript Verification form
The KIMEP registrar will provide you with the required certificate of admission
KIMEP sends the student a formal invitation letter

II. Visa Application Stage for the Embassy
The following documents are required:
Invitation letter from KIMEP
One passport size photo
Original copy of passport
Visa fee
Completed visa application form
Visa processing fees are:
Multiple Entry Visa (good for one year)– $ 200 USD
Process: Take all materials to the nearest Kazakhstan Embassy or Consulate
Fbeor US residents, this will be either the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Washington DC or the Consulate-General in New York City
Visa applications can be sent by mail, but the process will move more quickly if you go in person to the Embassy or Consulate-General
A visa expediting service (they take care of obtaining the visa once you have the relevant paperwork) might be a wise choice to simplify the process
